Advice before editing this pre-1700 Fyler profile?

I have information to contribute to the profile of Walter (Fyler) Filer. Do we need this added? This source also has information about some descendants. I am afraid.

  • Lieutenant Walter Fyler, immigrant ancestor, was born in England, and settled in Dorchester, Massachusetts, as early as 1634. He was a freeman there, May 14, 1634. He removed to Windsor, Connecticut, with the first settlers.
His house there was within the Palisado, and the well is still to be seen on the property of the Misses Stiles. He was deputy to the general court in 1647, and from 1661 to 1663.
He was juror in 1637-42-44. He married
Jane - and in his will gives the use
of his estate to her during her life. He died
December 12, 1683, and his widow in 1690.
Children: John, born at Windsor, September
    1642; Zerubbabel, December 23, 1644.

These are the sources I am using:

  • New England Families, Genealogical and Memorial: A Record of the Achievements of Her People in the Making of Commonwealths and the Founding of a Nation, Volume 3  William Richard Cutter Lewis historical publishing Company, 1913  page 1421.

Should I contact one of the pre-1700 projects or know about any style guidelines before proceeding? Thank you!

Hi, Lyn. Cutter rarely gives his sources and so he must be used with caution. Some of his work is correct and other of it is not. Unless he is giving his sources, what he states should be supported by primary source documentation. In the case of Walter Filer who was has been researched by Robert Anderson, if there are conflicts between Anderson and Cutter, Anderson would be considered the authority. If there is not conflicting information between Cutter and Anderson, I think you could add the Cutter citation in a "See Also" category under Sources.
