The Southern Pioneers project is about the pioneers who left the original colonial settlements of America and ventured into the wilderness to expand our early nation. Our mission is to preserve and protect the genealogy of these early pioneer families and to provide accurate connections between their immigrant ancestors and modern day descendants based on careful research and reliable sources.

If you are interested please post a response (an answer, not a comment please)  below

My pioneer ancestors include Wood, Shrewsbury, McKinney, Maxey, and Thorne Families. Each of these families can be traced back to Colonial Virginia in the 18th century and into Southwestern Virginia (later West Virginia) in the 19th century. I am proud of the strength and courage they had to venture west into the wilderness mountains that was the native American's hunting grounds. I enjoy learning more about my pioneer heritage, thanks to the contributions of other Wikitree users.

I would dearly love to be a part of the Southern Pioneers project on Wikitree. I am still dipping my toes in the Wikitree pond, finding areas where I might be helpful or enjoy being a part of. I have several ancestors who would qualify ... most ended up in Georgia where I live, then some headed for points west. I look forward to learning more about this project and meeting more friends on the way.

Hello! Very excited to discover this resource within WikiTree. Seems almost all of my US roots are from the South with many of my ancestors being the pioneer families - Polk, Brockman, Smith, Dickinson, Hall, Swindle, Cheshire, Lee, Gober, Barfield, Stillwell, Denmark, Wise, Goodwin, etc. I'd love to get involved and share information and help out. Many thanks!

I am not positive, but I think my ancestors fit in this project. They were in the original colonies, fought in the Revolutionary war, migrated south to the Carolinas and were in Missouri, left soon after the Trail of Tears for Texas where they raised cattle while Texas still belonged to Mexico, migrated to New Mexico and settled all over the western states.. I have a written record of the move from Texas to New Mexico in 1884 with their cattle, horses, and families. It includes marriage and children information on the family of my direct ancestor. So, if I fit, I would be very interested. I am new at this but would like to add what I could.

thanks ............. judy lafham

Hey y'all

I have long identified my family as Pioneer in the state of Florida.  They were here for the balloting for Florida to become a state.  In the late 1600's into the 1700's they were in North and South Carolina.  My southern dialect and accent readily identify.  Can I be a part of your group?

As a relative newby to WikiTree there's a lot I don't know, including how to add the project sticker and join a discussion group, so I need help with that. I look forward to working on this project because I have SO many folks to include and they have such fascinating stories!

I am still not able to join the Southern Pioneers Project and I'm very frustrated. I entered the phrase under my bio as directed and nothing has happened. What next?
I sent a message through your WIkiTree profile with a solution to this problem.

Hello, I'd like to be added to this project, and desire to share information and assist in any way I can. On my maternal side of the family, I'm descended from numerous colonists and pioneers that migrated into the mountains of SW Virginia, E. TN, KY, and MO from PA, VA, NC, and MD. Their names were Satterfield, Johnson, Lawson, Baldwin, Fischer, Riddle, Beeler, Bledsoe, Anderson, Sizemore, etc.

Hi my mothers family is from Tennessee and Mississippi I would love to join.

Her surname is Smith. It is very confusing to find info on this name.

Mary Handy

Mary,

Yes, Smith is a surname that can be hard to research simply because it is so widely used.  Perhaps we willl have some other members that are also seaching your ancesters.  It should help that you know they were from Tennessee and Mississippi.

Hello -

I would love to be a part of this project. I am just now beginning to enter my family history into WikiTree. I have several family members who finally settled in Erath County, Texas via Missouri, Tennessee, North Carolina. I recently linked my great-great grandmother Alice (Moore) Norrod (Moore-47655) to her great-grandfather John Jackson Moore Sr. of Brunswick Co., Virginia. I am very excited about this as my Grandmother could not remember anything about Alice's family.

Best,
