Dear Fellow History Diggers,
My interest in genealogy stretches across the globe from the Middle East to Latin America, from Europe to the US. The stories that yield the most, of course, are those tracing back to Europe from the Colonies. The Native American narrative has me stumped at turns, and I'd like to connect with others looking at Kentucky/North Carolina/Tennessee and folks labeled as having Cherokee ancestry (whether that's accurate or not).
Thanks for the opportunity to introduce myself!
My maternal line follows Ellis back to Wales and is rumored to have mixed it up with the native North American tribes. Vega/Mata/Rodriguez branches go back to Costa Rica. I'm looking to trace it back to Spain.
My paternal line is rooted in centuries of Greek Orthodox Christians in the land of Jesus -- most recently Jerusalem and Bethlehem.
My husband's lineage points more obviously to Cherokee roots, but there's a tangled turn at the level of his third and fourth great-grandmother that I'd like to resolve. His European line is prominently Lau (Lowe), and the Partin name weaves in throughout both sides of his family.
Thanks for reading. I hope this apparatus will forward responses to my email, as I won't check the site directly with any frequency.
