Gedcom files....

Why is it that WikiTree still allows ged.com files to be uploaded.  I have spent the last week or more correcting other people's ged.com files as they belong to a cousin of mine and the cousins are not members - yet. I have never uploaded one and never will but really it makes me cross that I have to keep on correcting other peoples ged.com files to fit in with the files I have made.  Would be really nice to not have to put up with these and also the references that are Ancestry and one cannot read them due to not being a member of Ancestry or the files are private...

I feel your pain, but...

Because it is one of the nicest ways to merge long time work into Wikitree?

Yes, there is loads of debris and many mistakes, but I would never have started here if it was not possible to link my database somehow to Wikitree. I think the main issue is with the other sites, where people are allowed to import their 'own tree' which nobody checks.

I fully agree with the pain of people importing non-sourced profiles. But the same happens with people using other tools to create profiles.
