Hello, I am trying find out any information on William Bennett, a Carbonear man born around 1823, who I have been told may be linked to Indigenous ancestors. He was married to Ann Hefford, who was born in 1834 and died in 1904. William died in March 1887 and is buried in Moretons Harbour as per this link: http://ngb.chebucto.org/Parish/summerford-moretonshbr-uc-burials--tw.shtml

Besides this information, I have hit a roadblock when attempting to find information related to their parents.

William Bennett, Newfoundland Vital Statistics, 1753-1893 Marriage 05 Oct 1864 at Fortune, Burin, Newfoundland, Canada. Spouse's name is Caroline Ryal.
Hi Frank,

Thanks for the quick reply. I was comparing your information to what records I have gathered, and unfortunately, this record does not appear to be from the same person. In the aforementioned NGB link, Bennett is stated to be from "the Carbonear area". I don't think Fortune, which is approx. 200 km away would be considered the same area. Further, there is no record of the children of William and Caroline, only their marriage document. Despite this, I appreciate your help. Baden

I'm doing some searches now. So far the only leads I have are a comment that "Hefford" is more commonly spelled "Efford", and a few children's names:

* the marriage of Elijah Willis Bennett

* EWB's death http://sites.rootsweb.com/~cannf/nd_vistat_deathregister6.htm

* death of daughter Lucretia and death of William http://sites.rootsweb.com/~cannf/nd_mhburials74-81.htm

There is a Family Search family tree profile (no parents listed)

https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/GWSG-Y43

and also a James William Bennett born in Carbonear in 1818: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QK9Y-QR17

It's weird, several of the transcribers' notes on the Rootsweb transcriptions note the birthplace of William, and the maiden name of Ann. But I don't see William or Ann's birth records anywhere. Or their marriage.

You might try and email Jill Marshall (who transcribed the records) directly. I contacted her about a question a few years ago, and she was great.
