Is it acceptable to add suffix RWS to name?

+7 votes
I came across a profile, where somebody has added 'RWS' for Revolutionary Wartime Service as the suffix for this profile's name. Since RWS is not an actual part of the name or suffix, it seems in poor style and sets a bad precedence. Is this acceptable style by WikiTree standards, or should it be corrected?

Unclear to me which Revolutionary Wars this is meant to apply to, and on which side(s) the profile subject fought?

Hi Olin, great question.  I don't think that this is an acceptable use of the suffix field.  I've never heard of the suffix RWS before but even if it does exist, it exists in small circles and isn't really recognized as a bona fide suffix.

Hi Olin.  I agree with SJ that this isn't a legitimate, recognized suffix.  On the question of whether you should correct it, I would be hesitant.  I notice that the Profile Manager is an active member, and I think it would be better to write to the PM and suggest not using such suffixes, in case there is a pattern and you have just stumbled onto one example out of many.
