I am looking for the parents of Marie D Smith Nov 5, 1905, death 1980. Her Social Security Record states her parents were Mary Burnhart and George Smith.  I can not find any record for either of them. She was my grandmother, but I never knew any family history.

This might be her

If so, her younger sisters Violet and Amelia are in a German Catholic orphanage in 1920, but I haven't found her or her brother and there are also Frances and Joseph, so maybe not

Yes, Indeed you sent me on the right track.  It seems that in an earlier record Marce is Crystal Marie Smith.  One of my neices was named Crystal, and unsubstantiated family lore said she was named after her grandmother which made no sense.  Every record I could find said Marie.  Then I happened upon my aunt's social security record and it said Crystal Smith was her mother's name.(only record ever found woth that name; if you hadn't shown me Marce, who was clearly Crystal in an earlier census record. With the older brother identified, I was able to trace a DNA 3rd cousin, Philip Heimburg to her older brother Charles Smith

So I have Crystal's parents as Mary Burnhart and George Smith.  I find George in a household with a Mary Lockwood as wife, Violet and 3 Lockwood stepdaughters. Then I found Amelia and Violet in German Catholic Orpanage.  No further records for Violet or Amelia.  I didn't any other siblings.

So I have no idea about Mary Burnhart's origins. or disappearance from the records. No idea of George Smith's  ancestry either, so the brick wall at Crystal Marie's parentage still haunts me.

Thank you so much, without you, I would still be nowhere.  I did find a Marie Smith as a servant at the right age in 2 mansions in Buffalo--Lexington Avenue, checked on Google Maps.  So I suspect she dropped Crystal early in life.

The family tree you referenced was actually.mine.  I am updating and cleaning up my ancestry.com before I submit a GEDCOM to wikiTree.

This is a fatastic resource!! Many Blessings, Karen Connor Coker
