Every time I add info to Ancestry.com, do I have to update WikiTree too?

When I update Ancestry.com, trying to add info (especially sources), do I have to separately update WikiTree?  Does the new added info migrate automatically to WikiTree?  Thanks.

Since they are separate entities, you may update one or the other or both or neither one.

Yes, you must update each one individually. Ancestry and WikiTree are separate entities.

No, its not automatically updated

If you want the information to remain in sync, you'll have to manually do it yourself

I try to manually keep these five sites in sync:

  1. Ancestry.com
  2. FamilySearch.com
  3. FindAGrave.com
  4. MyHeritage.com
  5. WikiTree.com

Wikitre and Ancestry are 2 completely different companies, owned by different entities, so there is NO autopopulation between these 2 websites.

If you wish to keep both sites (And any other family tree such as My Heritage - also under different ownership) up-to-date,  then YES you will have to update all your family trees, manually.

You may of course choose not to update any of them, that is entirely your choice.

It doesn't appear that anyone has mentioned it yet, but I think you might be able to update WikiTree with a new gedcom from Ancestry.  My guess is that that could be useful if you had added many new profiles to Ancestry, or particularly if you had added a whole new branch to your tree.  If you could create a gedcom for a new branch that you hadn't previously uploaded, that might be useful.  (However, I am not a big fan of gedcom uploads in general, and many people think it is just as easy, and better, to add new profiles to WikiTree one at a time.)

You could do that (upload a new gedcom) but everytime you upload a new gedcom, you will have to go through the GEDcompare process. And since many of the profiles will already be on wikitree, you will be rejecting a lot of names.

It is also my understanding that a gedcom frrom Ancestry cannot be "split" or made smaller to only include a new branch or just some names. Ancestry may be all or nothing...
