Advice before adding father of this pre-1700 Newton profile?

I can add a father to the profile of Edward Newton. This is who I can add:

  • Edward Newton died 1694 (new style)

These are the sources I am using:

  • Maryland Prerogative Court Wills, will of Edward Newton dated 2 Jan 1693/4; 6 Mar 1693/4 liber 2 folio 295

Should I contact one of the pre-1700 projects or know about any style guidelines before proceeding? Thank you!

Hi, Donald. The first thing I notice about this lineage in WikiTree is that it is essentially unsourced. There are no geographic locations documented for this Edward Norton profile nor the next five generations below him. In one of those generations you have written that the relationship is hypothesis (which is great to note when that is the case).

Before working on any of these pre-1700 profiles in this line, I would go downstream to the point where there is adequate primary source documentation and then slowly work backward so that each parent/child relationship is properly documented. There are at least three generations here which give wills as documentation. However, we don't see geographic locations that tie the will to the place and the person. And, it would be important to give the location of the will document as well as what it states which shows the parent/child relationship. Also, it might help to edit your question and add the tag Maryland so that Maryland project people will see the question and perhaps help you with the documentation.
