If the profile is open and has no current manager there should be no reason for you not to adopt the profile. However, before changing any information check to see if it is sourced with documentation, i.e., census records, church records, marriage records, death records, etc. If you change data add the sources for the information you change, and these sources should be cited so others can look up the documents to verify the information you have given. Correct well documented information should always be the goal when creating or updating a profile.
