Clan Stickers

+7 votes
I've noticed a line of lowland Ross families that have the Clan Ross sticker.   This is not appropriate as Clan Ross is a Highland Clan and the profiles are of individuals from the Lowlands.

They are pre-1500 profiles, so I'm asking if somebody needs to be pre-1500 certified to remove them, or if it's okay for myself (I'm a member of the Clan Ross / Ross Surname project) to do so.

I've included reference to just one of the profiles.

I am happy to raise the question with the Project Membership if you like.  I would support separate stickers for Clans and Families, as we now have separate teams for each.

Problem solved, I have removed the Clan Ross stickers from (hopefully) the entire family line. In any event the stickers were the old style and needed to be removed.

Should there not be a sticker for (Scottish). Family..?

Yes, you have to be pre-1500 certified.  Removing a sticker constitutes an edit, I'm afraid.

I do so agree. We Arbuthnots are a lowland family rather than  a highland clan and it is an ongoing irritation to me to see us referred to as a clan. The clans govern the most stunningly  beautiful parts of Scotland but the families held sway overs the moorlands and the more priifitable farmlands (and nowadays .the places where the oil comes ashore).

Even the almost infallible  Wikipedia gets this wrong but perhaps we should sort out our house before starting on theirs.

I do have to agree. Dad was Mackinnon/Gemmell, one of each, but the Mackinnons had been Anglified a couple of generations back by a mother who believed (quite rightly) that speaking the Gaelic would hold her sons back. I describe my father a dour Protestant with a Jacobite soul, quite a combination. He said they'd long since left the Clan even though he was brought up wearing the kilt. To him being in the Clan was still something really special but no longer for him.
