Is this Thomas Christian really the son of Illiam Dhône Christian?

After spending some hours trying to research and confirm data about Thomas Christian (1636-1694), I have come to the conclusion that he is incorrectly linked as son of William "Illiam Dhône" Christian. The Thomas Christian referenced as son of William Christian on his profile, was born and died on Isle of Man (c 1641/47-1700). The Thomas Christian (1636-1694) linked to him was supposedly born on Isle of Man, emigrated to Virginia, and died in Charles City County, Virginia.

I would suggest that this Thomas Christian be detached from William Christian and a correct profile for Thomas Christian be created and linked to William.

Any thoughts, suggestions welcome.

Shirley,

Thanks for working on this profile

do you have a source for that Isle of Mann death for Thomas son of William?

if so, I suggest drafting a "Disputed Origins" section that summarizes the issue, appropriately cited.

In the meantime I'm going to ask the profile managers to come here to discuss

I also see a second wife attached without source. Do we know where that came from?

Thanks for checking in on this issue. Do not know where the Unknown Corbin wife came from. It was there when I started working on Thomas. Have not yet gotten to verifying wife or wives, but I have not found any reference to Thomas having more than one wife.

Source for burial of Thomas Christian in Isle of Man on 21 June 1700 is from Isle of Man Parish Registers, 1598-2009  https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XZ1V-Y32

It does not give parent(s) of Thomas, but it is the death date just about all online family trees use for the Virginia Thomas Christian.

Will work up a "Disputed Origins" paragraph for Thomas.

According to "The Yesterdays behind the Door" by Susan Hicks Beach (nee Christian) - Liverpool University Press 1956,  (Pp 39-50) William and Elizabeth were living in Lancashire, England until 1637, and their elder two sons were born there. They moved back to the IoM in 1637 and lived in Ronaldsway, (presently the site of the IOM Airport) in the South of the Island. This is about ten miles from Onchan where this Thomas was born in 1636. I have family trees dating from the 1950s which do not mention a Thomas among William's nine children.

Thanks for this information. It is very helpful. The profile for William may need to be corrected since it lists a son Thomas born 1541-1547 in Ronaldsway, died 1700 in Lancashire, and cites thepeerage.com with no other documentation.

Thanks for the information. I believe we may share this common ancestor. I have documented.

Thomas Plummer Christian (1802 - 1879) 3rd ggrandfather (confirmed match)

Thomas C Christian 4th ggrandfather (confirmed match) son of

Lewis Christian Sr. 5th ggrandfather (confirmed match) son of

Thomas Christian III son of (unsure) son of

Colonel Thomas Christian (unsure) son of ?

I have now found two parish records for children of William and Elizabeth (Cockshutt) in Altham, Lancashire in 1634 and 1637. I will put the details on Illam Dhone's profile in a research note.

It does occur to me that there may be another William Christian in the IoM who married Elizabeth Collier and they had a son called Thomas?

Incidentally, where does his "Aristo" sticker come from? There does not seem to be any reference to him being ennobled.
Thanks for more info. I'm sure it will be helpful to those interested in William and Elizabeth. Also nice to have a better idea of when the family left England for Isle of Man. It was obviously after christening of son James in 1637. And another argument against Thomas Christian as a son of William, since he was supposed to be born in Isle of Man in 1636.

You'd have to ask the British Royals and Aristocrats Project why they feel it necessary to manage and project protect William.
