Our family history goes back to 1550 William Careter is the furthest we are able to go in 1550 in Northamptonshire England. However the name changes to Carter. Also there is another Variant of Le Careter.

Has the Le been dropped to anglisize the name? and the addition /Omission of the E in Careter could this have been an error when written.

In 1550 nobody knew how anything was spelled. Shouldn't get concerned about the odd missing "e".
