New member introducing myself

Hi all,

I am a beginner and have been plodding along with one line of the Baldwin name.  I’m at a ‘brick wall’ with the name John Baldwin - I can however, confirm in this line that he was married 12/8/1707 to Ann (Scott) Baldwin 1688-1741  in Falls,PA.  Additionally, there is notation of Ann Scott Family is John Scott II / Jane Bond Whitaker from Huggan Ing. Sawley Yorkshire,England

Beyond this .... John Baldwin is a dead end.

I’m enjoying this research like a huge puzzle.    Ideas are welcome!

Thanks.

Welcome Sarah! I hope that you find answers to your puzzle questions. Some of our lines can be so hard to advance, aren't they?!

Sarah,

I mentioned FTDNA and Y DNA. I just received this notice in my gmail FYI:

Hi Sarah, welcome. Are you saying 12th August or 8th December? Because this is a worldwide site it is best to be specific. Different countries use different ways of abbreviations. Thank you for being specific with the location for England .

Have you tried looking at familysearch.org ? It’s a good free site.

Hello Sarah from another Baldwin!

You might end up with a few 'brick walls' with the Baldwins, sometimes depending on how far back you want to go.

It sounds like you are from the Pennsylvania Baldwins. I mention this because I did my brother's Y700 on FTDNA. It is a wonderfully useful site. If you have a brother who would be willing to swab, it would be great if you could afford up to Y111 when FTDNA has a sale. Also become a member of the Baldwin surname group.

My original Baldwin came from Buckinghamshire, England to Massachusetts during the PGM in 1640. You might find it useful to see  https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Baldwin-5

I left a message on the FTDNA Baldwin site and received a wonderful message from a man named Donn Devine, CG. He managed the Baldwin site because his wife descended from the Pennsylvania Baldwins. He listed my brother DNA with the Connecticut Baldwins because Donn assured me that these CT/MA Baldwin's all descended from the same common ancestor.

If you are able to find a family member (dad or brother preferably) to swab and send to FTDNA, it will be added to the Baldwin surname and it will help to see if you fall within the Pennsylvania parameters.

Sadly, we have a ton of 'John' Baldwins in the MA/CT lines and some of them are 'brick walls.' I try, little by little to determine their common ancestor. It is a reminder to not get frustrated. Just make sure that as you find information it is for the correct Baldwin and well-sourced.

Welcome to the family, including the Baldwin family tree!
