Have you tried familysearch.org it is a free site?

There are lots of ways to find ancestors.  The most logical is to look at birth or death records.  I found this Dale Leon Shackleford in Family Search, with a dad Jay Marshall Shackleford and spouse with the correct name.  But none of the dates quite match what you say. https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/G7SN-832  Start with what you know, look for census records,marriage records, birth and death records, military records, and document it on their profiles as you go.

Looks like his mother is Arrinda Smith.  Again, though, none of the dates match what you give, so double check and add sources for each fact.

Hi Marcia, I think your dates are close to 20 years off.  I believe J. Crook has given you the correct info on the son Dale.  Marshall's birth is closer to 1900 born in Arkansas and living in Oklahoma in 1940.  If you can find the 1940 US census you will see approx dates and birth places.  If you can't find the census I will provide it.
