My husband believes that his grandfather Charles Cifford Lawson was given to the Hatfields to raise during the 20's or 30's because his family could not aford to raise him.

Charles or Clifford as we called him never talked much about his past. he was born in 1926 in nelson cointy. if anyone could help me solve this mystrey i would be forever thankful.

Where is Nelson County?
Vincent,

I don't know anything about this, but am sticking my two cents in anyway so that you don't have to wait for "anonymous" to return in case you want to try to help answer the question.

I would expect the county is in West Virginia, which is where the Hatfields lived ... then again, I could be wrong and it's possible the Hatfields spilled over into western Virginia or maybe even northwestern Maryland or southwestern Pennsylvania ... maybe even northeastern Tennesee.

Maybe it is Hughes rather than Hatfield in Nelson Co. KY.

My mother might know who you speak of. My name is Charles Wayne Lawson III, and I am related to the Hatfields. My e-mail is waynelawson5@gmail.com, if you have anymore questions.
