connection on profiles

+1 vote
I have shown that I was connected to 2 people one by Mellanie Paul who found a cousin connection and one I found a connection from the brother to me I received no replies to messages I sent. This has disappointed and surprised me as I though this was the reason here to find connections

Did you check to see when they were last active on wikitree?
Yeah, Marion, we did.  One engaged in a comment conversation with me, but does not appear to have responded to her actual cousin (Elizabeth) reaching out.

The other was recently-ish active (last I checked), but has not responded to overtures.

Dear Elizabeth,

The standard way to make connections here is through proving the links between profiles. If I were the profile manager of one of the profiles, I would love to see sources/references to documents to create the links. You could really help them by creating sources profiles and sourced links between those profiles. I have trouble following some of the lines you describe in comments as there are no profiles in between them with written sources/links. That way it is really hard to see the connections in reality.

Wikitree is about making connection, but we all do our part by creating the profiles and discuss the sources and prove the links.

If you need help, I am maybe not explaining it well enough, you could ask for a mentor. Those volunteers are much better than me in explaining. You can also contact your greeter for more information.

Elizabeth is talking about profile managers who turn out to be her 4th or 3rd or whatever cousins, and they have not responded to her reaching out to them.

I know - because I have been sharing the journey with her.

EDIT -- connections don't show when the lineage is broken by duplicate profiles (currently awaiting merges).
it is correct and I am so disappointed as I though this site would connect us together I am now thinking of stopping altogether if they are not connecting
The site can't force someone to reply.  It's disappointing, I agree, but unfortunately such is life.

I have had a mixed bag -- I have found some cousins who don't seem terribly interested in communicating, and I have found others who have been happy to email back and forth. It is disappointing, as Ros says, but there's not much can be done (despite the new questions on profiles and the statement regards wishing to communicate with . . . ).  People will respond, or they won't.  Some will respond and communicate, later the communication falls away.  Unfortunately, this is how people are.  sad
