His baptism date/place & parents' names may have been discovered in the Bedfordshire Parish Registers.

We need look-up of New York Genealogical Biographical Record (NYGBR) Volume 17, pages 219-224. please, to confirm parish register data is for the Richard Letten who migrated.  Thank you.

C-H, thanks for e-mailing copies to me.  Very helpful.

Cheryl, do you no longer have your NEHGS membership? They've got volumes 1-54 there.

Ooops; I see you were actually looking for a much later volume.... never mind...

The reference is actually to vol. 117, not vol. 17.

p. 222: "Richard Letten (in his later life Lattin), son of Thomas Letten by his wife Collias Pearce, was baptized at Salford, co. Bedford, 12 Feb. 1608/9, and died in 1673, either in Hempstead or Oyster Bay, Long Island . . . . Three of the children of Richard Letten were baptized at Salford before the family immigrated [sic] to New England.

In the Bedfordshire Historical Record Society Publications (18 [1936]: 66) there is [p. 223] a list of individuals who were in arrears for non-payment of the Ship-Money Tax in co. Bedford in 1637-1639, and in this list is the following notation:

SALFORD. Richard Lettin [owing] 3s. 0d. 'Gone to newe England.'"

This is from John Insley Coddington, "The Letten, Lettin, Lettyne, Lattin or Latting Family of Salford, County Bedford, England, Concord, Massachusetts, Fairfield, Connecticut, and Long Island, New York," New York Genealogical and Biographical Record, 117 (1986): 219-224
Thanks so much, we appreciate the information.

Sorry about the typo to the NYGBR volume and hope it didn’t take too much more of your time.
