What's your Y-DNA haplogroup?
Personally, I am not a male line Dowding descendant so my known Y-Haplogroup is not going to be relevant.  If you meant for the surname, so far no Dowding that I know of has done a Y-DNA test, or one that would id a Y Haplogroup.  We have  2 male Dowdings who are going to do the test for starters in the Project.
Ok good. I know that some Dowling, Dowlin, Downen, Downing, Downey, Dunnun lines can have a MRCA in past 600 years. Dowd also has MRCA in there, but at 1800 years. This is under DF-104/105 so Ireland/Scotland also some Swedish (Viking).
I have no connection to anyone named Dowding, but I was born at #1 Dowding Lane, Horsham St Faith RAF base in Norfolk, England.

The road was named for Sir Hugh Dowding who was Air Officer Commanding RAF Fighter Command during the Battle of Britain. He is not on WT.

Alrighty then, I obviously didn't search very well!

I have only done the regular Ancestry DNA test.   I know of someone, Thomas C. Dowden, of Indiana, who has taken the 23andMe test.   He has published online the "Descendants of John Thomas Dowden" and he says that he is descended from Thomas Dowden and Mary Davis.   My Dowden line goes back through Tom Dowden, to his father, James Davis Dowden I, to his father,Clementius Dowden, son of Thomas Dowden and Mary Davis.

My parents and grandparents were all interested in family history.   When I asked them "what kind of people are we?"

The answer always included "Scot-Irish, English, and Black Dutch."   DNA results confirm this mix.

Thanks for your efforts in creating and maintaining this project.

Hopefully we will get a few Dowdings and Dowdens interested in Y-DNA testing to explore the male surname lines
