Her parents are shown as Sir Richard Williams 1510-1544 & Mary Cartwright 1505-1541. All  the historical reports & completely befuddled family trees on Ancestry have Sir Richard married to Frances Murfyn 1479-1541. No child named Frances Cartwright is mentioned. How do these people get logically connected? Is there a connection?

Do you have any additional information on Sir Anthony Smith?  Names of children?  Location of birth and or death?  Parents names?

Sir Anthony Smith lived & died in Leichestershire, England. His son is Sir Samuel Smith or Smythe 1549-1575 is from Ipswich, Suffolf, England.

Connection I need is between Lady Frances Cartwright Williams & Sir Richard Williams Cromwell, courtier to King Henry VIII, great grandfather of Oliver Cromwell. One tree says he married Mary Cartwright but history & other trees say he married Frances Murfyn, daughter of Sir Thomas Murfyn

The wikitree profiles for Sir Richard Williams alias Cromwell and Frances Murfyn have sources which provide the evidence that they were indeed married.

There is no evidence recorded in the profile of Richard Williams alias Cromwell that he had an earlier wife named Mary Cartwright which means that either he did not have an earlier wife named Mary Cartwright or that the evidence for the marriage has not yet been found.

As you suspect, there may be no foundation for a link between a 'Lady Frances Cartwright Williams' and Sir Richard Williams alias Cromwell.

We agree, which is too bad. It kind of ends my tree with Sir Anthony Smith & Lady Frances Cartwright since her parents on Ancestry are listed as Sir Richard Williams & Lady Mary Cartwright. I've spent days trying to find a connection. A lot of people must have it wrong. Thanks for your help.

Apart from internet family trees have you seen any sources which confirm that a 'Sir Anthony Smith' and a 'Lady Frances Cartwright Williams' ever existed?

I see some internet trees ascribe him to be of Cossington, Leicestershire.

I also see that wikitree has a profile for a Richard Smith of Cossington who is shown as a father of the migrant Agnes Smith.

Here appears to be the wikitree version of the Samuel Smith you referred to:

No sources.

I would be cautious about whether he ever existed.

Shaw's knights of England is a good source for those who were knighted. There is no entry for a 'Sir Anthony Smith' and the only entry for a 'Sir Samuel Smith' is in 1622.
