896 Unknown parameter in template

On 7 August, the EditBot made changes to the following profiles that I manage:

  • Franke-716
  • Primus-33
  • Knight-15203
  • Shively-593
  • Barry-4518
  • Simmons-13641
  • Virgili-4
  • Richter-2270
  • Keele-339
  • Griswould-9
  • Hermann-1187
  • Stoever-156

Each of these records has been flagged by DataDoctors with Error 896.

This should have been foreseen by the Bot programmers and should not have occurred (IMHO).

What to do now?

Review the template causing the Suggestions, which has nothing to do with what EditBot did.  Looking at a few of those profiles, they are using the Roll of Honor template.

Edit bot removed the 'country' parameter which must have been a common parameter that is no longer in use on that template. If you look in the info box of the suggestion, it states that you also have the 'branch' in that template which is causing the suggestion. Looking at the template description, that parameter is not valid for that template so it has to be removed from the template to clear the Suggestion.

I don't understand. The instructions on the template do not make any sense to me.
How you can say this has nothing to do with what the EditBot did is mysterious, as these suggestions did not exist until the EditBot did its thing.
At the bottom of the template page, it has a list of the parameters that are valid.  Parameters are the items that have the '|' followed by the name and then =.

That template should only have category, description, image, rank and war, not branch or country. The description field is text say you could include the branch of service with that information. If you look at what is being displayed by the template when you are in Preview or Public mode, you will see that the information you entered in the branch field is not being used.
Ales changed the Suggestions a couple of weeks ago after they updated the Templates descriptions so the Suggestions identify templates that are using parameters that are not currently used, such as Country and Branch on Roll of Honor. He has been adding things for EditBot to fix so we don't have to manually fix 'some' templates because of the new Templates Suggestions.

If EditBot didn't remove the 'Country' from your template, your Suggestion for this Roll of Honor Suggestion would have also said in the Info box that Country was invalid. Currently, your template only has the Branch That needs to be corrected because EditBot helped you by removing the Country.
That template page hasn't been changed since Nov 2019, so the page describing what parameters are valid hasn't been changed since that time.
