ALice Elsje Neafus married Isaac Van Horn and died in 1790.  An Isaac Van Horn married a widow Dorothy Johns Marple in 1785.  Are they one and the same General Isaac Van Horn?  If so, did he divorce his first wife?  And, did he ever have a residence in North Carolina?

I think we have here a puzzle for research. Is there a definitive record of death for Elsje? In Pennsylvania, I suspect there would be a death register at a church, or in the city or county archives. That's one item required - an actual recorded death date ... reason being that this could have the a "died before 1790"  -- in short what evidence is there from Church or State that she died in 1790?

Edit 1: Well, there is one source for her baptism in 1748 -- message board cites the book Message Boards -- what it does is cite a book, but it is not the document or register itself such as the Church or State would have

Edit 2: What is needed, is a church register, if a vital stat register cannot be located for Bucks County, PA; vital stat registers are frequently located in Maine and Mass etc and PA was a civilized as they were, so there should be one

See if I can transfer the message itself ...  Oh, it worked!! wow

FYI, there is a book in the Library of Congress: A. VAN DOREN HONEYMAN's book "JOANNES NEVIUS Schepen and Third Secretary of New Amsterdam under the Dutch, First Secretary of New York City under the English AND HIS DESCENDANTS A.D. 1627-1900 Embracing existing families bearing the surnames of Nevius, Nevyus, Neafle Neafus, Neefus, Nafis, Nafie, Nafey, Naphey, Napheys and Naphis, And also those of similar spellings now obsolete."

I think it is possible several Isaac Van Horne have been conflated? Think more research needs to be done -- different wives, different places of death, ....

>Isaac Van Horne - Wikipedia is according to the birth and death dates also Isaac Van Horn (1754-1834) | WikiTree FREE Family Tree

Note that Horn is Horne

He married Dorothy Marple, the widow of Isaac Marple with whom she had already had two sons: John J. Marple and David J. Marple. Dorothy had 11 more children with Isaac:

Van Horne died February 2, 1834, in Zanesville, Ohio. One of the bequests in his will was a donation to the American Colonization Society.

Not sure if this helps, but Looks like an Isaac Van Horn who married Alice Sleight was born in New Jersey and died in Bucks County: from History of Bucks County, Vol 3: “Isaac Van Horn, born at Ber-
gen, New Jersey, died in Solebury town-
ship. Bucks county, Pennsjdvania, • in
1760. He married Alice Sleght (or
Slack) and had eight children: Bernard,
who married first Sarah Van Pelt and
second Jane Slack; John, who married
Catharine Neafie; Catharine, who mar-
ried a Van Pelt; Charity, Geertje, Elsie,
Isaac, baptized 1749,* married Alice
Neafies; and Jane.“

Looks like his son married Alice Neafies.

Same source has an Issac Van Horn who married Mary Betts:
 Mary, born 10 mo. 2, 1760,
married Isaac Van Horn”
