Hi WikiTreers!

Our fifth annual Source-a-Thon is coming up in less than two months -- October 2-5.

In the past, some WikiTreers have generously donated prizes for the event.

Would you like to donate a prize? It can be anything that would be fun or valuable to genealogists.

For example, in past years some WikiTreers have donated research time and/or DNA analysis, cool artwork like a painting they've done, a t-shirt or a genealogy related book.

Also, please note you'll need to ship the prize to the winner.

Post below if you are interested and I will get in touch.

Thank you!

Shouldn't this post be PINNED to the top of G2G?
Quick question: Due to international shipping costs and varying customs and documentation requirements (thank you, COVID-19), is it acceptable to offer a prize that can be shipped only to a specific country or countries?
Yep,  that would be fine.

I'd be happy to make 3 Digital Scrapbooking pages on any genealogy topic the winner wants. I was thinking maybe one page per day?

If you would like to see an example - this is the one page I made for a prize last year in the 2019 Source-a-thon. Scroll down to the section under DESCENDENTS.

Thanks for posting this. I did a digital album for my parents and wanted to put the pages up here but I wasn’t sure what size to put them at.

Do you by chance know what size it is in inches?
Typically 12 x 12 full size, but some designers prefer to work on A4 as it is a common printer size.
I usually work on 12 x 12 Inch pages, but the page can be resized smaller if required or requested.

I still absolutely LOVE that Robynne! heart What a great keepsake

Awesome - thanks Robynne!

Eowyn, I'd be willing to donate necklaces (artisan made by me).  Last year the recipient seemed very pleased with hers.  I could do whatever number you want.  I have some beautiful agate ones this year.
by Cindy Cooper G2G6 Pilot (323k points)
Awesome! Thanks Cindy! I put you down for 3.

I would be willing to do some digital pages as well. (See Robynne post) if there’s enough people wanting them.
by Alice Glassen G2G6 Mach 5 (57.3k points)
Cool!I put you down for three of them also.
HI Alice, I'm stil getting the hang of this.. but apparently I won a prize.. I saw that you will do digital pages as a prize. I have a couple of ancestors whose pages I would like to expand if you are able? I am also working on a friends (very colourful) ancestor at the moment to get their tree happening. it might prove to be a fun experience? its a truly interesting family in as far as it has it all 'guns crimes and courts.. and brothels.. not sure i should put the brothels on there though.. don't know if it will offend the descendants. Back in the shady 1930s:D
Congrats on your prize! First you will need to figure out what you would like on your pages as far as picture, text, information, heading maybe, and overall general theme of the page for the background.
Hi Larina! I have you down as claiming your prize from Alice and see you have connected here.  Yay! :)

My wife makes some beautiful hand sewn items like book covers, pillow cases, sunglass holders, etc.  All of the details are hand sewn.  Here are some examples:

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Baty_sewing

I mentioned this to her and she said she would be willing to donate one of her items.  The photo I put up earlier was the wrong one.  Here it is; a sunglass case and/or phone case (or both!).  I've included pics of front and back, both sides are hand sewn:

As a small one-prize set, I'll contribute three items:

Genealogy Standards, 2nd Edition, the 2019 revision of the Board for Certification of Genealogists' reference manual that for the first time includes the addition of DNA as as source data. Thirty-nine people directly contributed to that part of the update, including WikiTreers Blaine Bettinger, Judy Russell, and Karen Stanbary.

Genealogical Proof Standard: Building a Solid Case, 4th Edition, by Christine Rose. It defines the standard and expands on it with detailed explanations of how to apply it to information and evidence.

QuickSheet: Your Stripped-Bare Guide to Citing Sources, a two-sided laminated sheet by Elizabeth Shown Mills that shows the bare-bones essentials of citing the 10 most common types of sources on one side, and on the other side a template that can be used to collect/collate the data from any of those sources to quickly build a citation.

These will be shipped directly from Amazon and, unfortunately, can only ship to the continental U.S.

Neat! Thanks Edison!
Seemed appropriate for a Source-a-Thon.

You beat me to the most appropriate prize, Doug. Not that we couldn't have two copies of Evidence Explained given away. My 3rd edition is right behind me on a bookshelf. But I figured a little mix-and-match to compliment your donation.

I will donate, through my business Missing Link DNA, one birth parent search up to grandparent level. $300+ value.

Fine print:

The person must have an Ancestry DNA test. The person who wins may transfer it to someone else if they don't need it. The person must be 18+ years old. And I can't work with someone on behalf of someone else without the tester's permission.

I would like to donate a prize for the Source a Thon, my gift would be gardening/landscaping advice. Amongst other hats I wear I am a Master Gardener, plus about 10 years of university level horticulture and gardening courses. I ran my own garden design and coaching business for many years. I served as president of the local horticultural society for 4 years. I have been an obsessed gardener since I was 6.

For this to work the prizewinner would have to garden in climate zone 7 either U. S. or Canada and colder, or on the west coast of Canada or north western U.S. I have no experience with hot, dry climates. Further details could be worked out with the prize winner.

That's exciting! Thanks M!
If I win, I have a 12x24 raised bed on a sloped clay foundation with western shade that has your name all over it. I even have pictures of the first year. Can you handle a 5a?
No problem!

How many prizes are you looking to have?  I have a hand quilted table runner that I could donate, if you like - I really don't have any genealogy gifts but I've been a quilter for over 30 years.
by Mary Thomas G2G6 Mach 1 (17.9k points)
I don't think there can be any limit, Mary. So go for it!!
That would be fantastic - thank you!
