New member introducing myself

Question

hi I Linda Ansley. I was born a mayes but im a goss dna proved. However its my mother's side im looking for at thr moment. KIRKS. I am a decendant of William Armstead Kirk born 1754 married to Elizabeth Agnes Cain. I believe his father is Thomas Kirk born 1720. I am very confused about the dna process here. Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you
