Parents of Asa or Edward Iley Jones

Asa Iley Jones was supposedly born in Aug 1849 in NC, according to the 1900 MS census.  We think he may have also used the name Edward Iley Jones.  In both the 1880 AL and 1900 MS census, he said his Father was born in NC and specifically in Jerusalem on the 1880 census.

Jan 28 1872, he married Alice Ophelia Winslet/Winslett in Muscogee Co., GA.  I think they were both from AL, at that time, as she was born about 1856 in AL according to the 1880 AL census.  She died Sept. 8, 1895 in Clarke Co., MS where they moved about 1888, where he bought a large home/inn/shop.  He was a Missionary Baptist Preacher.  Land records appear to be in her name as A. O. Jones.

Been working on this line since 1990 and most of the trees online are a result of my research.  Glad to share.

None of the information you have given appears on his profile, nor any sources. They would help us to know where you have searched etc.

Marion, thank you for your input.  That Asa married Sarah Kornegay in 1873, while mine was married in 1872 and was still married to Alice Ophelia Winslet as per the 1880 AL census.
Asa doesn't appear on any record before 1872 when he married Ophelia Winslet in Muscogee, GA.  On the 1880, Lee County, AL census, they are listed with 3 of their children.  By 1888-1889, they moved to Clarke Co., MS, where he was a Missionary Baptist Preacher.  He may have also been known as Edward Iley Jones as there was a portrait in the homestead with that man's name.  We are unsure if it is of him or an ancestor.  Alice Ophelia died Sept. 8, 1895.

He and his 2nd wife (Esther) appear on the 1900 Clarke Co., MS census with his children from both marriages.  He died in 1903 and she in 1910.  I have all the names of their children, where they lived, who they married if they married and where they died, as well as their descendants.  Glad to share.

Frank, thanks for your input.  That Asa was Asa Ellison Jones who married Martha Alexandria McMurray about 1875 in possibly Polk Co., NC.  Mine was married in 1872 in GA and still married to Alice/Allis on the 1880 census in Lee Co., AL.
