I have not found a category for this. I have looked through some project pages and categories with no luck! Please help if you can!

Thanks!

sorry i thought you a;ready had that information but here it is again  https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:JDZX-QQG

Thanks for the info.

If there is not an existing category, you could request one https://www.wikitree.com/contact/category/

Thanks, Will. I added it right after you posted the link. It adds some useful info on his parents names.

I think you might run into a problem with such a category, was reading about the subject recently, a lot of Japanese born Canadians were removed from coastal areas like BC but were not necessarily interned as such.  Making the distinction between those actually interned and those just removed to other location may be difficult.

Thanks, good point.

I would still like to come up with some category to capture this event. Although not all were interned, most were and they went to camps in the BC Rockies:

"the majority of Japanese Canadians, some 12,000 people, were exiled to the Slocan Valley, in BC’s eastern Kootenay region."

https://www.thecanadianencyclopedia.ca/en/article/internment-of-japanese-canadians

Hoping someone with more experience creating categories has an idea of how to do this.

From the article, only about 700 were actually ''interned'' as pow's, the rest were simply robbed blind and forced to move to the interior of BC into highly inadequate housing.  Not sure how you can use a category to show all this, nor how many profiles you can tie it to.  Would take a whole lot of work to create profiles for whole families affected, and you don't want to leave them orphaned.

I was part of the Empress of Ireland Project we did in 2014 as commemoration for the sinking of that ship.  Only involved about 1200 people, and to this day the majority are not tied to our tree, once in a while someone comes along who identifies them and can add to their bio and family.  You are looking at over 12 thousand to 20 thousand people affected by this.  Massive job.
No, I wasn't going to add any addtional profiles. I was just hoping for a category to add to the profile I mentioned above. And then as other members add other profiles, they could use that category too.
hmm, then I would suggest you put some sort of notice for people working on BC profiles that this is something that will be set up in future once sufficient number of profiles are on the tree.  No sense creating a category for a single profile.
I agree with Danielle, and if I can add a suggestion, in the absence of a category,  you could consider using a free space page to keep track of those you find.  Then you'll be able to see, and show, the need for a category.
Thanks, Laurie. Good idea.
