Hello fellow researchers,
I'm a beginner-to-intermediate genealogy researcher and always amazed to learn what I don't know. It's my main stress relief, though sometimes those genealogy questions keep me up at night.
Although I lived most of my life in California, now I'm living in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley, VA, where within 5-20 minutes I can visit most of my ancestors' graves---I am very lucky as a researcher in that!
I'm primarily interested in the lines of Thomas Harrison and Thomas Moore in Rockingham County, VA and all their associated families: Hollingsworths, Huffmans, Houstons, Coles, etc.
Also interested in my husband's family, La Freniere, Morris, Long, Barron, Oake, Green, and a different line of Virginia Harrisons.
I grew up with old relative talking a lot of boring genealogy talk, but now that I'm old I realize how interesting the family history is. Harrisons and Moores intermarried a lot in Rockingham County, even to my grandparents' generation. They were a Moore and a Harrison, and second cousins.
My husband's family more recently came from France, Russia, and Quebec, so never dreamed in a million years he had any Virginia colonial background. Not so! A maternal grandmother of his turned out to have hidden Virginia lines, including--we recently found out--a common ancestor in John Harrison (1691-1771). So, we have a (distant!) cousin marriage, too!
Thanks for letting me introduce myself. I look forward to getting to know the posters here.
