New member introducing myself

Hello fellow researchers,

I'm a beginner-to-intermediate genealogy researcher and always amazed to learn what I don't know. It's my main stress relief, though sometimes those genealogy questions keep me up at night.

Although I lived most of my life in California, now I'm living in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley, VA, where within 5-20 minutes I can visit most of my ancestors' graves---I am very lucky as a researcher in that!

I'm primarily interested in the lines of Thomas Harrison and Thomas Moore in Rockingham County, VA and all their associated families: Hollingsworths, Huffmans, Houstons, Coles, etc.

Also interested in my husband's family, La Freniere, Morris, Long, Barron, Oake, Green, and a different line of Virginia Harrisons.

I grew up with old relative talking a lot of boring genealogy talk, but now that I'm old I realize how interesting the family history is. Harrisons and Moores intermarried a lot in Rockingham County, even to my grandparents' generation. They were a Moore and a Harrison, and second cousins.

My husband's family more recently came from France, Russia, and Quebec, so never dreamed in a million years he had any Virginia colonial background. Not so! A maternal grandmother of his turned out to have hidden Virginia lines, including--we recently found out--a common ancestor in John Harrison (1691-1771). So, we have a (distant!) cousin marriage, too!

Thanks for letting me introduce myself. I look forward to getting to know the posters here.

Merit welcome to WikiTree I have connections to a MOORE family over in the U.K.

You may want to add tags for some of the other surnames of interest.

Merit: Welcome to WikiTree. You will find that it takes time to learn the system, but it is worth it. The people here are friendly and helpful. I would not be surprised if members of some of the families you are looking already have profiles on WikiTree. My great-great grandfather's profile was already on WikiTree and I just needed to connect to him.

Merit, welcome to WikiTree. You are very lucky to be so close to your ancestor's graves. You are fortunate to have had relatives that talked about genealogy with you, and how smart that you listened.

Thank you for giving us a little history about your family, and any time you have questions, the g2g is the place you want to be.

Good luck in your search, and again - welcome to WikiTree.
