Question

Hi. I’m trying to figure out how I could possibly related to the former President John Quincy Adams? I have an Ancestry family tree and it seems he could be a possible relative. Is there a way to match DNA? I did a 23 and me test. I’m having a hard time navigating this wiki site. Thoughts? Thanks I’m New to all of this. It would’ve amazing to have some type of confirmation.

I was told the same when I was a child but nope not a descendant. The Adams' were not terribly fecund  from the 19th century on and they have been heavily documented. You can start from the Wikipedia tree or do a google search. No shortage of notables in that line!

In the event that you are, probably better to brag about being related to his father or Samuel though!

Hi. Yes, I know I’m not a direct descendant of him regardless but on the ancestry site I found out that I’m related to Jonas Powers Sr. Which is President John Adams 3rd cousin according to Ancestry. Jonas Powers  Senior’s Mom was Edith Gould Adams which would be how Jonas is related to John Adams. Jonas Powers Sr would’ve been my great Grandmother’s 3rd Great Grandfather all according to ancestry. So that’s why I believe I would be in some type of relation to Adams  but not directly down the line of course. I wish I could attach a picture on here because I had screen shot the relation. My great Grandmothers name was Matilda Jane Kilgore. Her Mother was Margaret Peggy Powers. Any thoughts? I just wish I had an exact way to confirm. Thoughts? Thanks all!

Lindsay, like Susan said, the way to confirm relationships is to simply start adding your ancestors to your tree with factual sources indicated in their profiles. When a common ancestor with your (candidate) relative is reached, Wikitree can provide the relationship paths to that common ancestor.  You may well be related to several presidents.  I think I'm related to most of them.

If you have done your own profile, your parents (2) and grandparents (4) and great grandparents (8) and great great grandparents (16) and so forth as far back into time as you can create them and find sources for them ...
