Pending Merge Problems because of Privacy

+2 votes

I was going through the Pending Merges for all of WikiTree and thought I'd do a couple .... just my luck that the 1st one would cause problems sad

Message said an approved merge proposal was found, so the merge can continue but when I attempted to do it, received the following message: "We're sorry. One of these profiles is not Open and you are not on either profile's Trusted List. Although permission for the merge has been recorded, it would violate our privacy controls to enable you to complete the merge."

WikiTree profile: Edward Davis

Yes, the earlier / oldest ones in the listing have privacy issues on one or both profiles, so the PM or Admin must do the merges.  Some members of the Arborist group have been trying to reach the PM or Admin to complete the merges.

Remember that just because a merge has been proposed and may have gone past the default time or even if PMs have approve a merge, the profiles should still be reviewed to determine if a merge should be done.  If there are parent discrepancies, those need to be straightened out first, merging those profile should be done before the children are done, as an example.

Thanks Linda!

I've been in touch with the PM for Davis-73782 and he is wanting to go ahead and just a minute ago I sent a message to PM of Davis-64409 to ask if he could change the privacy of the profile to public which will allow the straightforward merge to go ahead ... there are no discrepancies between the two.
or one PM can add the other to the Trusted List and then that person could do the merge.  Having fairly active PMs that will respond is what helps the process. When we run into PMs that haven't been active for a while, that is when it takes longer.

Thanks Linda! I've passed this message on to the active PM as he is quite anxious to 'get going' on it smiley

The Edward Davis who is on my tree, (my Grandfather) is not matching the person of same name you are looking for. So sorry.
