Disputed Parents: William Melton/Milton

It is extremely unlikely that William Melton is the son of Richard Melton and Margaret Ross. First, there is no evidence for the name of Richard Melton's wife. No record has been found for him that includes a wife's name; no marriage record has been located and confirmed. Second, William is said to have been born in England about 1618-1620. He was transported to Virginia Colony by July 1638 when he would have been 18-20 years old. Richard Melton was transported to Virginia Colony on the ship ''Supply'' which sailed from England in September 1620 and arrived in Virginia in January 1621. He was unmarried and an indentured servant. Unless he left a wife and child in England (or child born out of wedlock) when he went to Virginia, William could not be his son.

It is suggested that William Melton be removed as son from Richard Melton and Margaret Ross.

I concur. And then both profiles should be project protected (US Southern Colonies happy to do the honors) to prevent reattachment without discussion.
Thanks, Jillaine. I'll take care of the unlinking, so you can do the honors on PPP.
I've PPP'ed William, but haven't yet PPP'ed the previously attached parents (thanks, Shirley for detaching them) because the father has his own disputed origins matter. I've posted a comment on the not-father's profile seeking advice.

Thanks for PPP on William. This entire early line has "disputed" problems. I've decided to leave the earlier ones to someone else and have moved on to children of William Melton (1647-1714). As usual having problems there, too.frown

Just found the source for many of my problems with children of William. He was transported to Charles City, Virginia about 1638. He (and his children) have been conflated with another William Milton transported to Northumberland, Virginia in 1651! crying
