Question

I appreciate your insight.  Honestly at this point I feel like I would trust WikiTree and FamilySearch more than the other "for profit" sites but to keep it consistent, I'd like to start my tree with my grandparents instead.

I will be contacting 23andme to find out how to do this so it doesn't include my info nor my parents of which my mom is still living.

A. thank you for making your comments on our g2g forum.  I am not sure if you have read anything about our privacy at WikiTree, but basically here they are:

• Profiles of non-living people without any sensitive information or real privacy concerns should be Open.
• Profiles of people born over 150 years ago or who died over 100 years ago must be Open.
• All other profiles are closed.

So you really should not have any concerns about entering information about you or your parents of which your mom is still living.I hope this helps, and good luck at WikiTree.

Cheryl has already answered. Just to add a bit of more information:

A WIKI remembers everything you do. Even though the data is really well protected from viewing, depending on your choice of privacy, it is still kept in the database and history is kept of all changes.

So in general for recent people it is better to input the bare minimum from the start. I basically only add the links to parents, not mentioning them in the bio, so only the tree is built. But nothing else on living people.
