Brickwall ancestor-Can't find birth certificate

I have hit a brickwall with this ancestor. I have a birthdate somewhere in the vicinity of 1807-1809, but possibly as early as 1801, depending on which source you believe. His death certificate and daughter's birth cert (Elizabeth Mary Davis b. 1860) states London, England as his birth place. Many family members believed he was from  Wales-maybe his parents? His death certificate states Father's name as Lewis Davis and Father's occupation as Doctor of Medicine and mother as Elizabeth Whiting. Death certificate says arrival in Australia was about 1826-time in NSW 46 years, family lore says ship name was the ''Sophie Ann'' but I cannot locate a shipping record for him. He was a tailor in Kelso, Bathurst, NSW, Australia and I have located newspaper articles about him from 1846. His daughter's obituary states that her Grandfather was a doctor in Wales and that he lost an arm and a leg in the Battle of Waterloo, but then continued his practice as a doctor after Waterloo. Any ideas would be appreciated.

There is a William Davis baptized 15th Feb 1804 St Bride's, Fleet st, London father Lewis mother Elizabeth.
Thank you, yes I did see this one, but it says 'Workhouse' after his parents names, which doesn't fit the idea that Lewis was a Medical Doctor??
Perhaps he was the doctor at the workhouse.
I've just realised these workhouses had medical staff at their infirmary!
Yes possibly, I wonder if there are any records of Doctors at Workhouses?

This is a start, the marriage of his parents.

The marriage of Lewis Davis & Elizabeth Whiting was held on 29 June 1796, St. Mary, Newington, Southwark. (London, England Church of England Marriages & Banns)
