Need A Home For The Anneke Jans Bogardus Descendants Association

Hello, I am a descendant of Anneke Jans Bogardus. A while back I was online trying to find anything I could on the Bogardus line and came across a website run by William and Raymona Bogardus. On their website they invited anyone who felt they were descendants (of Anneke JANS, via the children of her first husband, Roelof JANSEN; or from her second husband Everardus BOGARDUS) to come join their Descendants Association. There was no cost and the only criteria for membership was that you provide documentation (Pedigree Chart and/or Family Group Records) that reflected your known or suspected line of descent. The principal purpose of this informal organization was, “to keep alive the interest in our ancestors and to create a common bond of friendship among their descendants.”

When I tried to send in my information, I found that Raymona had passed away and Mr. Bogardus, is now in his early 90s, and is in a nursing home. So far as I know, no one is active in the day to day administration of the website or in processing new members into the Anneke JANS and Everardus BOGARDUS Descendants Association. Efforts are currently underway to contact his son or daughter to find out what is going to happen to all of Mr. Bogardus’ many years of research, a second book he was working on, and the status of the Descendants Association.

Apart from being in touch with those ongoing efforts, I was wondering if there is group of descendants of Anneke and her two husbands already on WikiTree or, if not, if there would be any interest in establishing one and how would one go about setting it up.

I have only been a member of WikiTree for a few months and am not very experienced with all the processes of Wikitree but would be willing to help out and volunteer in this effort but I would need help and guidance in how to go about this.

Thank you.

Anneke Jans and her husbands are popular ancestors who have been a focus for numerous descendants who are members of WikiTree, so you are likely to find a number of kindred spirits (not to mention actual kin) here. These are interesting ancestors. Here are links to their profiles in WikiTree:

WikiTreers worked hard to document their lives on the basis of primary records and other reliable sources (in place of the mythology that grew up around these fascinating people).

I see that you have connected your ancestral line through to Anneke and Everardus. That is a first step toward connecting with cousins on WikiTree. Family Tree tools here can help display other descendants, and the lists of other members who have edited these profiles will help you find a few other descendants. I am not, however, aware of a utility for displaying other WikiTree members on a descendants list. Such may exist, but if it does not exist, there are some tool developers here who will create it for you.

I am tagging your post with some tags that will seen by members who are likely to be able to help you create a list of her WikiTreers who descend from these people.

Thank you so much, Ellen! This is the kind of help I was hoping for. And I see we're cousins, also!
Monte

Ellen, I'm sorry to report that I have lost contact with the person that was going to help me make contact with Mr. Bogardus. That, along with a lack of enough interest in having WikiTree as the new home for the Descendants Association and my having so many other things I need to take care of, has caused me to lose interest in further pursuing this project. I hope that you or someone else who has more experience than myself can continue this effort. Thanks.

Thanks for checking in, Monte.
Monty, I realize this is an old post, but I'm responding to your sad report of having lost your contact.  If the website is still there, you can find contact information for whoever administers it.  Go to https://lookup.icann.org/en and enter the domain name to see its record.  I hope this helps.
Ellen, I’m new here & I'm trying to connect my great great great grandmother Mary Ann Freeman Lowe to Anneke Jans. Any thoughts on where I should start? Thx a lot.
Patricia, your next steps here in WikiTree are to read up on "how to WikiTree," start adding your family to WikiTree by adding profiles for your parents, grandparents, etc., and upgrade your account to full Wiki Genealogist so you can connect your new profiles to profiles of family members that already exist here in WikiTree. (If your family members are already here, you should upgrade to Wiki Genealogist immediately -- before creating new profiles. We are building a single "family tree" here, so we do not duplicate profiles for people who are already documented here.)

I don't know who Mary Ann Freeman Lowe is or if she already has a profile. But I do know that we need to start with what we know about our families, and build from there.

Perhaps a one name study would allow all of you to work together.

Thank you, Cindy for that suggestion. I didn't even know what a One Name Studies project was. But from looking at the ultimate aim of an ONS, if I'm not mistaken, the surnames of JANSEN and BOGARDUS have probably already been met. However, since I'm not experienced with this I will look into it further to make sure. Also, the "all of you", that you mentioned is, for right now, just myself.

Really, the objective of this effort is to see if there is any interest in having a place for the existing members of the Anneke JANS and Everardus BOGARDUS Descendants Association to reside and a place for new folks who want to join. The reason I'm trying to pursue this is because Bill and Ramona Bogardus are no longer able to act as the stewards that they once were.

Beyond that, and maybe more importantly is, what is going to happen to all of Mr. Bogardus' research and the second book he was working on? These are the things that I really need help with. It would be a shame if his life's work ended up in a dumpster somewhere.
I was thinking that the "all of you" would materialize within the descendants, at least that would be the hope.  IDK what to do about their materials but make sure you get those boxes!
Thank you for posting about this Monte! I am a descendant and would be interested in being a member.. I will be watching this topic closely to see how it develops. I, too, hope you can get the research.

Yes, you're right, Cindy, that is the hope. And, hopefully, the more folks that see these posts and through word of mouth, WikiTree will become the new home of the Anneke JANS and Everardus BOGARDUS Descendants Association. But I need the powers that be within WikiTree to do the things that need to be done that I don't have experience with. I've created a Project but beyond that, I still need more help.

Thank you, Beverely. If you have any ideas on how to spread the word, let me know. I set up a Project but I don't know if that is going to help much.

Is there an Anneke association?  She's my 11th great-grandmother.

Any luck determining what happened to William B Bogardus’ works on Anneke Jan’s? I’m trying to link my Gx3 grandmother to Anneke & the 6th & 7th generations book that he was working on may have answers. Thx a lot.
