This Robert Barnes (born mid-1820s in SC) married to Julia Barnes and with son Robert Barnes (born late 1850s) is also in the 1870 census. And there is a death certificate of their son John M. Barnes (born 1861, died 1929) stating that the elder Robert was also a Robert Jackson Barnes, born in Chester Co., and that Julia's maiden name was Davis.
That may be him, thanks
And in 1880 census he is listed as R Dorsey Barnes (transcribed by ancestry as K Dorcy Barnes), married to Julia (of the right age).

Could this be a transcription error? Barnes instead of Bannon?

Yes, in the image that definitely looks more like Barnes than Bannon.
C-H does the Robert Barnes you mentioned being born in the mid 20's have a profile by chance?
No, he does not have a profile yet, either here at Wikitree or at familysearch.org (the Robert Barnes born 1825 in SC who is profile Barnes-462 is a different one, that one had moved to Alabama by 1850).

The data we have for him is the 1850 census cited above by Betty (living with his presumed sister Rebecca, who had married Leroy/Marion Parish), the 1860 census cited above by Betty (married to Julia, son Robert Barnes age 1, who is presumably your Robert Jackson Barnes), the 1870 census (married to Julia, with son Robert I. and several other children), and the 1880 census (listed as R. Dorsey or Dorcy Barnes, still married to Julia), as well as the 1929 death certificate of son John Barnes (listing Julia's maiden name as Davis). All records from Chester County, SC.

The 1840 census record cited above by Betty (together with the middle name recorded in 1880) suggests he may have been a son of the Dorsey Barnes who was in his 40s and a slave-owning farmer in Chester County. To confirm this we would probably need either probate and/or land records.
Ok got it and thanks a lot, gives me a point to start with

Thanks Frank, I am thinking they migrated to chester S.C from North Carolina Just not sure if the Robeson County N.C Barnes's are connected to the Chester County S.C Family. It would make since but I can not find any information on Roberts Parents except for the ones listed on find a Grave but that Information is incorrect
Robert Barnes served in the Confederate Army in the 8th Regiment, South Carolina Infantry.

I found a connection to Donnie Blackstone's father which is closer to Robert Barnes than I am. Donnie is in South Carolina and might be a good resource person on finding Robert Barnes parents. It would certainly be a good thing to find parents, grandparents and so on.
