William S Colquhoun Military Service early to mid 1800's [closed]

As should be expected I suppose, the name William S. Calquhoun is far more common during the time period he lived than expected. There are not too many firsts these days, but in 25 years of Genealogy this is my first time to research a U.S. Army soldier from before 1850. Where might I find military resources that would provide detail about his possible military career and help confirm/eliminate confusion with others with this same name? Thus far I have found writings which mention his activity as a side note to other topics but no biographical details. Hopefully someone with knowledge in this area can assist with research strategies for this search. Thank you in advance for the assistance!

This biographical sketch was found which led to census and other primary sources. https://issuu.com/mlsmediaonline/docs/a5furtherchronno1.pdf  There is now enough evidence to conclude that Lt. Colquhoun of Virginia is one in the same as the Agent to who assisted with Choctaw removal.
