John Reid [Reid-9683] sibling confusion?

My direct ancestry is from (8-47) John R. Reid [Reid-9683], but am confused about some of his siblings.  In his profile, Nathan [Reid-2457] is listed as half-brother, yet their mother’s profile Mary McKean [McKean-221] does list him as her son, but no link.  If Nathan and Alexander [Reid-2459] are truly half-brothers, would they have been older from Thomas John Reid’s [Reid-2453] first wife (whomever she would be)?  Three other siblings are listed in Mary’s profile [McKean-221] with no references or links.  Did they die at child birth and not listed with the father, or simply from another father?

Because of a lack of sources it is difficult to know if they are duplicates, siblings of same name who died young, or belong to another family.

It appears to me, that your John R. Reid, might actually be a mash up of Col. John Reid Jr. & Col. John R Reid Sr.

I don't agree with you on that answer as Col John Reid was born in Scotland in 1721, Married to Sarah Duncan, and Jr was born in Buxton, Scotland in 1760. They are my ancestors. I have this information from a genealogy book that was my great Aunt Rita wrote back in the 70's about the Reid line. Upon further research in the Donnachaid Clan I found that Col John Reid changed his name from Roberts/(son) to Reid due to his marriage to Sarah Duncan.

I'm sorry, Dawn, but I don't see any connection between your Col John Reid, & John Bell Reid, who were in Scotland at least until 1796, and the three other John Reids I mentioned, all of whom died in the Americas, in: 1752, 1763, & 1746...
