Parents for Anne Patricia Thonet

Question

I’ve hit a brick wall looking for the parents of Anne Patricia Thonet.  Here’s what I know:

Birth: 22 May 1940 in Hempstead, Nassau County, New York (Source: New York State Birth Index, Social Security Death Index)

Marriage:  Unk date to Peter Hubart Sinclair (1939-1973) (Source:  personal knowledge of grandson, Michael Allen Kuhn Jr.)

Marriage:  31 Mar 1978 to Elston Gerard Kuhn (1941-2012) (Source:  Florida Marriage Index)

Birth of son:  29 Mar 1964, Stephen John Kuhn

Birth of son:  24 Sep 1965, Michael Allen Kuhn Sr

Died 25 Oct 2009 in Winter Haven, Polk County, Florida (Source:  Social Security Death Index)

I’ve searched all the sites I can think of (Ancestry, FamilySearch, Wikitree) and I’ve Googled everything I can think of.  Any help will be appreciated.

Since she was born after the 1940 Census you probably won't find much more on line.  It might be worth ordering a copy of  her death certificate from Florida, or her complete Social Security application from Social Security.

Edit:  her obituary (Lake Wales News, FL, Oct. 28, 2009) lists husband and children, but no parents' names.

No, that’s very unlikely to be her since allher connections seem to be in the Hempstead, New York area.  You might look to see who she’s buried near, possibly in a family plot.

You might have to spring for a certificate.  Check if the Florida Marriage documents of 1978 would list her father's name, and what you would have to have as credentials to order a copy.  You might have to ask one of the sons to order the copy if your relationship is insufficiently close and your reason seems insufficiently important to their policies.

Probably someone here on G2G knows what information would be likely to be on that 1978 marriage registration.

And there is always the birth certificate.  It should have the father's name.

I thought that since she was born so close to enumeration time, her parents might have been living in that town at the time of the census.  I searched, but didn't get a hit.  No hit for 1930 either.  Probably just as you experienced.

That doesn't mean her parents aren't there.  It is not a common name, so it could have been poorly heard, poorly written, poorly spelled, poorly transcribed, poorly indexed, or some combo of those.  

In that case, one option is to have a look through the handwriting of the census yourself.  It has worked for me in the past.  If the town is really large, you might want to do a little research to see if there are neighbourhoods that are more likely than others - economically, or ethnically, or whatever the town is about.

There is a Thonet family in Hempstead in 1935 and 1940.  The father's obit is available, (sorry about the paywall). It mentions the older two daughters Mabel and Gladys and this Virginia, but not a younger girl that could be Anne.  

Still, there could be a cousin in town, either living there or just arrived to have the baby....probably not Mabel nor Gladys, since they are both married before 1940.

If she is the Ann Thonet mentioned in the obit, she was just not quite 7 years old when her father passed away.  Her mother was her father's second wife, and they can be seen on the 1940 Census in Hempstead with no kids yet (they just got married in 1939).

And then her mom passed away when she was 16.

Her father was the younger brother of that other Thonet man on the 1940 Census for Hempstead.
