October 2 - October 5 — the start of Family History Month — is our fifth annual "Source-a-Thon"!

This three-day event is for a good cause (sourced genealogy!), there will be lots of door prizes donated from around the genealogy community, and it will be lots of fun.

The marathon starts Friday, October 2 at 8 AM (ET) and ends Monday, October 5, 8 AM (ET) but you don't need to participate the whole time (!). If you can join for any of it, please post an ANSWER below saying either the team you'd like to be on (see the team list) or your genealogical interests or geographic location and we'll assign a team before the start of the event.

Wouldn't it be nice to have a small piece of software dealing with this registration? Instead of using a FAQ system?
It would, Michel -- are you volunteering?? ;-)

Well... not sure one would allow a newbie to make such changes cheeky. But who knows...

laugh

Maybe your suggestion will put a bug in someone's ear.

Mum Julie, Michel showed us at the DRP he is able to make (small) miracles happen.

So cherish the bug! And mark his ID! (But do not steel him away from us! winklaugh

I'm registred as #489 but there is no sign of my participation anywhere. Not in the team I signed up (Spic-n-Span Scandinavians; I added my-self on that page but doesn't seem to change anything) and not showing up in the tracking lists. Feels a little bit left out...

Hi Ben, try posting here to see if it can be sorted out - https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/1116016/do-you-have-2020-source-a-thon-questions
OK thanks will do!
Shucks! I missed it!...again..  Bummer..maybe in 2021..or are we doing these more than once a year?  Thx
The next thon will be in 2021...Scan-A-Thon, We will see you then!

Hello, I would like to register for this year's Source-a-Thon, and I would like to be on the Mighty Maple Leaves's team. Thank you!

I joined once before, but unfortunately work kept me away (I work a lot of weekends). I may need help getting started!

My first question would be: does sourcing my own ancestors count?
by Karen Jaszewski G2G1 (1.6k points)
Yes as long as they are already entered.  New Profiles added during the sourceathon do not count.

Hi Karen!

Welcome to the Mighty Maple Leaves Team! Here is the link to the Team Chat!

Thank you, Christine! Glad to be here. laugh

Hi, Karen -- you are #426

And you're already on Discord!! Yay!

Julie, is there something I need to do with the number, other than use it when I work on a profile? I listened to the Saturday Facebook chat, but I'm still unclear about exactly how this will work... Sorry to ask newbie questions, but for Source a Thon, I am one! Thanks!
No worries about the questions, Deborah!! :-D

The bib # is just for fun. On the Challenge Tracker for the Source-a-Thon, you'll use your profile ID, not the bib #.

There's a Source-a-thon tutorial here that has some good info on what to do during the 'thon: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Source-a-Thon_Tutorial

It also gives instructions on how to use your bib # in different places.

Team Australia please?
by Sue Crerar G2G6 (6.8k points)

G'day, g'day -- I can't see where I ever gave you a hat, not even the older blue-banded one. blush

Here's a newer green-banded one!  (Full size on click.)

thanks
Not actually sure what to do with my hat...  I so see Steve's instructions about "bib image"  Do I want to follow those?

The hat is just a bit of fun, as is the Wombat Wizard.

Some folk stick the image on their profiles.  I use it in posts for 'Thons, when I remember to do so.  cheeky

I have my bib on my profile, but I'm not sure I followed those instructions.  I guess it depends on how much you like profile "bling".

thanks - will see how that goes.  Pretty low bling style is my preference lol.
I also use the hat giving as a marker of where I have reached for reporting to Kathleen.  Between us we keep tally to match against the official list of names, to make sure we don't miss anyone.
