Are you just locked out if a profile manager doesn't accept your request to join the Trusted List?

So, I've tried to invite myself to the party several times. No joy.

More recently, I responded to the flagged message on the profile, "The WikiTree community needs your help with this profile."

I've assumed we are just locked out if the profile manager doesn't want our help, but thought I should at least ask.

If you have signed the Honor code you should simply be able to click the Edit tab on the top of the page and make changes since that profile is over 200 years old.  the privacy is set to Open.

Open
Anyone can view the full profile and any member who has signed the Wiki Genealogist Honor Code can edit it.
Required for people over 200.

You don't have to request to join the Trusted list.

Excellent point, Ed.  Good Catch!
That is great, in theory, Ed, but there are plenty of profiles well over the 200 year mark that are locked and access is restricted to 'trusted list only'.

Given the holidays, the profile manager may not have had an opportunity to get back to you.  They may not have abandoned the profile, nor made a decision *not* to allow you access.  They might just be busy.  It's commendable to be so eager to assist, but you might need to be a little patient.

You might also consider sending the profile manager the information you have to update the profile and see if he does it himself.

If it turns out that the profile has been abandoned or the owner is non-responsive you can contact Info@WikiTree.com and they will look into it.

I might point out that your own profile is more or less anonymous (surname X) and that *may* give them pause about granting you access.  It's a confidence thing.

In any case, read this: http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Unresponsive_Profile_Managers for more information on how to proceed.  We certainly want our World Tree to grow!

Thanks Michael Gabbard.

In my own research, blogging and other communitiy activities, I maintain a consistent identity as "GeneJ."  I don't mean for my preferences to infringe, though, on the WikiTree community.

In this case, I don't think it is just me that hasn't been "trusted" for the purpose of that family line.

I'll inquire further and separately.

Thank you again.
Hey GeneJ! Since Preston is from 200+ years old, the controls should be managed especially loosely. The profiles around him could be adopted by a user group and managed by the group. But for right now, I just added you to the Trusted List for him, his wife, and child.
Thank you, Chris. :-)
