I want to thank all of you who are going for supporting Alzheimers Research. Sadly that horrible disease is the reason I will be unable to attend. My husband has been diagnosed. His brother died last year from complications of Alzheimers.

   Very sorry to hear of your husband's diagnosis.  My maternal grandfather also had it.  I will not be attending in person, but I hope to attend the conference in some virtual fashion (I've read somewhere of an online feed-in to or during the conference).  My very kindest wishes and respects to you.

I'm also sorry to hear about your husband.  One of the primary goals of the GFR is to do what we can to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer's.  AJ's grandfather suffered from it. So does mine.  So it's definitely a personal thing!

 

Shira, yes, the speakers and performers will be live-streamed so you'd be able to watch.  There will also be local events (branch parties) all around the world coinciding with the main event in NYC so maybe one of those will be close enough for you to attend!

My wife and I both intend on going and maybe bringing our sons.

We joked about planning 9 months out to have a child born precisely on the date of the GFR.

I think the badge is a good way to help raise awareness.  Great job you guys.

My wife and I are planning to attend.  Which hotel(s) do you recommend?  It would be nice if a lot of WikiTreers were at the same hotel. Which subway stops at the Science Center?  Which airport is most convenient?

I can answer one question: it looks like LGA (LaGuardia) airport is very close to the site of the GFR. :)

I just checked flights today, and it looks like I should be able to go! Flying to New York is cheaper than I expected. :)

I second Peter's questions about hotels. Is there an official GFR hotel? Will any hotels have special GFR offers?

Our family will be attending - we have tentatively booked a hotel within walking distance. My youngest daughter is keen on the science museum. My teenagers would like to know more about volunteering.

Driving down from Canada, possibly a 3 generation trip.

My wife, girls, and I are planning to head to one of the branch locations, but we're toying with the idea of hitting the main event instead.

I hadn't heard there would be "branch locations" for the Reunion.  That's good to know, although for me the main purpose is to meet other WikiTree collaborators, so if I go, it will be to the main event.

My family did attend the GFR at the Allen County Library branch location in Fort Wayne, IN.  We were underwhelmed at what was (or wasn't) going on to make this an event.  Basically, it just felt like a regular library except with one room set aside for the live-stream broadcast (though the room was empty each time I checked).

Nonetheless, we had a lot of genealogy to scan/read/discover in the stacks upstairs, so we spent our time well.  And our girls played in the kids' books.

Can I get the badge as an attendee?

I'm late to this thread since until right now I thought that me attending would be an impossiblity since I'm in the UK, work full-time and have a family to look after.

However my super wonderful husband has decided he's going to get me there by whatever means necessary so you can count me in!
