Advice before editing this pre-1700 Burbank profile?

I have information to contribute to the profile of Eleazer Burbank. This is what I can add:

  • The Burbank Genealogy of 1928 has a lot of information on Eleazer Burbank (1681/82 to 1759).  It includes a full listing of his Last Will that enumerates all of his living sons.  The current WIkitree listing includes a son "David" that does not exist.  The information included in this "David's" profile matches the facts of his son Daniel's life.  Daniel was married twice (first to Hannah Adams) and then to Elizabeth Johnson.  This needs to be corrected.

These are the sources I am using:

  • Sedgley, George Burbank. Genealogy of the Burbank Family and the Families of Bray, Wellcome, Sedgley (Sedgeley) and Welch.  Farmington, ME: Knowlton & McLearly Company, 1928.

Should I contact one of the pre-1700 projects or know about any style guidelines before proceeding? Thank you!

Hi, Kent, and welcome to WikiTree. The Burbank Genealogy appears to be well-written, basically well-sourced and the will is a big help. But, like many books of the era, the sourcing is not always given. On the profile in the book for Daniel it gives the information on both wives, says a marriage intention for first wife exists and there should be a death record for her. I would see if you can find the original primary source documents for those. Second wife Elizabeth is named in the will. These primary source items together would establish that the two profiles are meant to be the same man, Daniel. I would find the docs (ask for assistance here in g2g if needed) and then discuss merging the two profiles with the two profile managers involved. As you probably noticed, the David profile cites as its source an Ancestry tree and nothing more. It's possible there's a transcription of vital records where the name Daniel has been incorrectly transcribed as David creating this extra child. If you find that, make note of it on the profile for others.
