Aurora,

Just work on the ones that pertain to your family. It doesn't matter who or where you source, just as long as you find source, added, save them and click the Tracker button.  :)
Hey y'all, got my quilt pinned and managed to do 3 or 4 (working on phone with bad internet, so it's going slowly). But I should have the laptop at the WiFi hotspot tomorrow. Can't add self to  spreadsheet, but I'm mostly working on Georgia, 1800s...north central when it's listed. Cheers!
I'm dying laughing at a note I saw on Familysearch:

"The children were taken live by the parents from Georgia to Arkansas."
@ Armistead - would you like for me to add Georgia by your name on the Spreadsheet?
@ Kathryn, that is hillarious!
Yes, please, Loretta, and thanks.
LOL, Kathryn, good to know they were alive!
We have had 3 winners on the video chats! Yeah
We have another winner in the prizes - they just announced it.

We have another Winner!!!

Sharon Glover - you won - during the Video Chat. Go here to claim your prize https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/1116017/did-you-win-a-source-a-thon-prize

If you have an Ancestry.com subscription, and you wish to add a link to a source image on a profile, you can create a link to the image that is free for all to view (with or without a subscription) by following the instructions below.

1. Open the image on Ancestry.com.

2. Click the "tools" icon on the image page.

3. Select "Share"

4. I usually select Facebook from the share menu but choose a platform where you have an account or choose email and send to yourself.

5. Close the sharing window and copy the link in the small window that remains.

6. Use the link as is or truncate it as described below.

To truncate the link:

Here is what the link you copied will look like:

https://www.ancestry.com/sharing/16090426?h=4d8605&utm_campaign=bandido-webparts&utm_source=post-share-modal&utm_medium=copy-url

To truncate it and still retain a working link remove all of the bolded portion which will leave a link that looks like this:

https://www.ancestry.com/sharing/16090426?h=4d8605

When I can't find a source that should be there on family search I use Ancestry and make these links.  If I run across the same source later on Family Search I will change them out.

I have found if I sign in to my Family Search account and use it instead of the Family Search link from the profile I find more of the sources.
Paula, you are so correct! Thank you for reminding us to use Family Search.
Checking on the team spreadsheet, I haven't been added yet.  I'm Carol Lindsay BIB#456.  Please add me.

This is my first source-a-thon so thanks so much for the tutorial and video!
You are listed! :)
Thanks so much! That is indeed good to know!

Hey Guys,   Thanks for signing me up for another Source A Thon.     I'm prepping for the great Weekend.

One question.   What's our BIB number for and about?  Just curious.

Peggy
by Peggy McReynolds G2G6 Pilot (470k points)
Excellent question! I wished I had a brilliant answer for you. Think of it as a Marathon, everyone has a BIB # on their chest to make it easier to keep up with the runners... If that is not the correct answer, will someone please speak up and correct me.
Thanks Loretta,

I was familiar with the numbers for racers.   Right now I'm a  #1  with a lot of other people.   Just curious.
The 1 is just a placeholder. The numbers are coming out very slowly but when they do, I will update your BIB #. :)

Thanks Loretta!    I sort of liked being  #1.laugh

lol, me too!

Exactly how does one "Prep" for the Source-a-thon? Looking for all recommendations!!!!

Why do we have a "Spreadsheet"? I think I know the answer to this question, maybe...Have you ever been working on a particular area and all of a sudden when you click on a profile you see someone else had just finished working on it? This happens to me all the time. On the spreadsheet, you can indicate what area you are working on, so your teammates won't be stepping on each other. It's just an easy way to keep up with where everyone is working and it highlights areas that may have been ignored.

Just some random thoughts for a manic Monday morning! lol

Let's make this our best Source-a-thon ever! Remember, there are no dumb questions, if you don't know how to accomplish a task, please ask!!! We are all here to help!!!

THE Southern Super Sweepers, where the fun never ends!!!

by Loretta Corbin G2G6 Pilot (242k points)
Excellent answer Paula!
Leslie, I wished there was a way to flag them! It is a rather lengthy process to have a profile opened up. Maybe we should ask Aleš if he can have the edit bot take a look at this situation.
Thank you for replying to my question; I'm glad I could help with the info on OK2Explore.  That database is a triumph for genealogists!

Great tips!  Thank you all.

I added the areas that I will be working on for the source-a-thon to the spreadsheet.  I have already made a spreadsheet of those profiles and started locating a source or making a note if no source found, so that come S-A-T Day, I can copy & paste into the profile. I, too, will only be working on adding one source.  This is so hard for me.  Resolved, I will also try not to get sidetracked and will stay focused- I will come back after the S-A-T to work on the profiles that are bugging me.

Looking forward to sourcing with y'all!

All the best, Janet

Excellent job Janet! That will save you a ton of time!!!
I went to add what I will be working on to the spreadsheet and I can't find my name on it.
Checking on the team spreadsheet, I haven't been added yet.  I'm Carol Lindsay BIB#456.  Please add me.

This is my first source-a-thon so thanks so much for the tutorial and video!
@ Janet, I did what you did and made a spreadsheet and started looking up the sources.  I am having such a hard time stopping at one and going on to the next name even on my spreadsheet. (I know I could go ahead and put them on my spreadsheet but I am trying to practice for this weekend}  And I keep wanting to edit and add them to the profile now.  LOL

@Paula

I know what you mean. The struggle is real. wink

Everyone should be listed on the Spreadsheet now. Please check and sound off if you are not listed!

Do you want to write a quick bio for a profile? Try this app on WikiTree.

https://apps.wikitree.com/apps/shipley1223/Bio.html

Just put the profile name and number in the place of shipley-1223
by Loretta Corbin G2G6 Pilot (242k points)
Loretta, this is another good one for a simple biography.  I keep forgetting I have the link bookmarked but I have used it several times and it looks better than what is usually posted on there when the profile is entered or from a gedcom.

I won't be adding bio's during the thon. I will probably do that after the thon. Gonna try to keep my "Speed" up during the thon. wink

I am going to try to do it that way this time.  For some reason the other sources are just right there and I keep wanting to add everything I can find.

Every thon is all about speed! Unfortunately, the older I get, the slower I get. :)

But for this thon, I am going to stick to 1 accurate source per profile!!!!

We have a small team this go around, so I am going to work super hard on doing as many as I can!!!

Go Southern Super Sweepers Go!!!

I just bookbarked the Biography maker app.  Thank you!
Seems like they hide all the good jewels to make our job easier! You are very welcome Janet!!!

I am new to this and I have a couple of questions.  Is our goal to add just one source to each profile, or are we adding as many sources as we find?  Also, are we just adding sources to the Sources section directly, or do we write up something for the Biography section and reference the source there?

Thanks for your help!
by Terry Miller G2G1 (1.8k points)
During the Source-a-thon, one only needs to add one source per profile. One census record is enough. Remove the Unsourced tag, save the profile after you add the source  and click on the tracker at the top of the page.

I always make sure the references tag is directly under Sources, so it will display correctly.

==Sources==
<references />

The more we get corrected the better. Adding a quick bio is not necessary.

Sorry I will be missing this year.  We are doing Thanksgiving that weekend because of family circumstances with health and the covid issue and predicted hard winter here.  That was the only weekend in Oct that worked for everyone.  We are doing it out of doors .   This year has pretty much been a wash for me in terms of thons...
by Laura Bozzay G2G6 Pilot (824k points)
You will be missed. Take care!
What a great idea, Laura!  Enjoy your family and praying for a beautiful fall day for y'all.

Best, Janet

Well are you all ready?? Just about 30 hours before we start for this weekend fall 2020 "Source-A-Thon"smiley

Southern_Super_Sweepers-3.jpg

Just wanted to wish everyone good luck in finding sources and fixing up profiles to meet the challenge and help us try to get on the top 5 (or so) on the list.

Not an easy task. But remember, it's the accomplishments that you will be making in helping source those "unsourced profiles" that keep adding up on WikiTree!  We truly appreciate everyone who signed up!!!!!

Hey, guys!

I’ll be working almost exclusively in Cabarrus County, North Carolina. Here’s a huge gedcom that hasn’t been touched nearly since 2011. I have about 400 unsourced profiles on my list right now.

I’ll will have two interruptions tomorrow, one to the bank to sign papers (early) and then a nephew is coming up to see his grandpa, aunt and uncle, and us. I’ll lose a few hours there.
by Pip Sheppard G2G Astronaut (2.7m points)
You're so fast Pip that I doubt anyone will notice you missing a few hours here and there.  Spending time with living family is always a top priority.
Thanks, Kathy. I didn’t find out until this afternoon about both.

Kathy is correct on your "Speed"!!!
We are so blessed to have you on the Super Sweepers!

I am patiently (lol) waiting for the Kick Off! cheeky

Check the Spreadsheet for the STATS and a link to the Video Chats

NOW LET'S GO HAVE SOME FUN!

heartcoolcheekyheart

Ready to GO!! 500 Cabarrus County unsourced! Added 100 to my list last night,
You are ROCKING OUR WORLD!!!
Cabarrus County! I go there for work every fall! (Except this year... venue closed due to virus :(

Really?! D, I worked in Concord for two years putting myself through college. (Don’t ask how long ago that was! cheeky)

LOL, Pip! As a historical costumer, my biggest venue is the Carolina Renaissance Festival. They're technically in Mecklenburg, just over the border...I think. Can never remember when sales tax time rolls around ;)

Can we please have a link to the Tracking page where it is easily seen? I keep finding the one of the Source-A-Thon but not this one.

Thanks - and good luck to all of our team - Go Super Sweepers!!
by Virginia Fields G2G Astronaut (1.2m points)
It is on the Spreadsheet :)

Good Morning!

I tried to put links for everything on the Spreadsheet last night. You can find links to all the Stats, Links to the Video Chats And if you look under the State names you will find links to Unsourced Profiles! :)

Go Super Sweepers!

by Loretta Corbin G2G6 Pilot (242k points)

After you save the profile, be sure to click on the Challenge Tracker so you will get your points.

I've been hard at it!  I'm going to take a nap and then get back to sourcing.  . . . My daughter is housesitting. My grandchildren are keeping their distance because they go to school and don't want to share any Covid germs with me.  So I should be able to help out a lot this weekend.
