Corporal Jessie Brunson was wounded and died from his wounds from the Battle of Cold Harbor. He was enlisted in the 106th New York Co., H. There is another Brunson in exact same company. Is 1st Lt. Asahel A Brunson (1839 - 1900) his brother who was also wounded possibly in same battle. We need help with the Brunson boys in the civil war

Does Corp  Jessie Brunson have a gravestone?

See on Wikipedia Battle of Cold Harbor

Thank you

Oh how tragic the mother died in 1862. Thank you was able to connect the boys to the mother. I have proposed a merge of Hazen-1471 and Hazen-1476. Hazen-1471 shows aka “Russell” ?

Hazen-1471 has a daughter Sarah Ann Brunson (1831 - 1905) I don’t see her listed in the 1860 census and seems an age difference. Asahel was born in 1839. So not so sure this Sarah Ann Brunson belongs to this particular family. Ok I see a Sarah Adelia Brunson as sibling 1831-1905. So this is definitely his sister plenty of sources on family search tree.

"United States Census, 1850," database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MC28-6NL : 4 April 2020), Sarah Parks in household of William Parks, North Hero, Grand Isle, Vermont, United States; citing family 282, NARA microfilm publication M432 (Washington, D.C.: National Archives and Records Administration, n.d.).

It seems she named her son after her brother Jessie who died in the civil war

This is the family. I figured that was his brother. I’m wondering how many men in a company as I’m interested in company H of the 106th

Jessie was wounded June 1, 1864 and died 18 days later on June 19, 1864. I’m curious what kind of wound that would take 18 days. My grandfather was wounded July 9, 1864 at the Battle of Monocacy. So he was at cold harbor as well.

Thank you

Note: should we categorize him as ”KIA” ?

Also the name they misspelled a typo I am sure it’s spelled “Brunson” however census records tends to have these kinds of typos

This is excellent! It’s definitely his brother. How tragic for this family. It’s a miracle even one survived and he was wounded himself. I wonder if he was at Cold Harbor same day as his brother Jessie both were in Company H

I see Asahel was promoted to first sergeant August 27, 1862 and he transferred to company F on July 21, 1864. Close the time his brother Jessie died

Obit of son of Asahel Brunson. Father nicknamed “Ace” civil war veteran
