I wanted to share this family photo of 52 Photos Week 36 Hard Work with the community. Location: South Wilmington, No. 3 Coal Mine. Date: about 1915. The man on the left is my great-uncle Frank Brtva. His father and several of his brothers also worked the coal mines of Grundy and Will Counties. One brother recalled in later days how much he hated working the coal mines stating "never again". Sadly, one of Frank's other brothers died in 1921 in a mine accident when he was run over by a coal car.

This photo shows just how difficult and dangerous a coal miners job was.
