The Hartford Courant of 28 October 1945 has a slightly longer version of the AP story: "New London, April 27 - Mrs. Lila Derlien, about 35, identified only as the wife of a naval lieutenant on duty at Baltimore, was burned to death in a bedroom fire at 129 Pequot Avenue here tonight. Deputy fire chief Lawrence McGrath said the woman had been 'burned beyond recognition' in a fire which he believed started from a cigarette the woman was smoking in bed. McGrath estimated that the blaze did damage of $200 and said it had been confined to Mrs. Derlien's bedroom." See https://www.newspapers.com/image/367903057
