I found this clipping from 1893 recently and hope that other WikiTreers will also be amused by it.

Richard,  Yes, it is amusing, especially, finding similarities in my own tree......even to this day.......Meant it to be a comment......but oh well.....anybody else?

That's hilarious, Richard.  I've come across a few like this that take way too much of my concentration to decode.  But I love having a laugh; thanks for that!  I'm also loving the groom's last name, Heritage.  How appropriate for WikiTree.

It is appropriate, but it can be inconvenient for searching. A lot of people are interested in their heritage who aren't related to me at all! smiley

What Pip said.

I tried drawing it, but that just made it worse. I can't come up with a way to do it that doesn't involve duplicating everyone with long arrows between the duplicates.

I submitted an article recently where I proposed that two brothers had married a mother and daughter. When I first realized it, so many confusing things came into clarity. If I understand your clipped article correctly, this is the same setup but with a brother and sister and a father and daughter. Perhaps I should submit a revised manuscript with all of the relationships spelled out...

Richard,  Permit me another..... one of my favorites.   When William de Ferrers' wife, Sybyl died. he married Roger de Quincy's daughter, Margaret......When Roger"s wife, Helen died, he married William's daughter, Eleanor......Thus, as Eleanor was already stepdaughter to Margaret she now became stepmother to her own stepmother.

We had a beginning of that type of chain in my family but thank heavens everyone was older and it got stopped by
deaths.  Uncle Bob and Aunt Ruth were married after college.
Ruth died and Bob remarried.  Bob married Mary and then after he died  Mary married Morry.  Mary died before Morry
without realizing he was related, distantly, to Aunt Ruth, a
cousin of my great grandmother.  The chain ended with Morry's death.  Morry was some kind of cousin to Uncle Bob and Aunt Ruth's children but we just lump it into cousins, excluding all the "stepparents" to them.
