If John Grubbs wife is a widow on the census in 1880, and this John F Grubbs   died in 1905, it couldn’t be the John Grubbs I’m looking for, right?

I got his name from his son’s death certificate. I know nothing about his dates. He had 2 children, John David Grubbs & Della Mae Grubbs-Armstrong,  with my great great grandmother, Mary Jane Grubbs( maiden name). I got the marriage certificates of the two children from the Mendenhall Courthouse, and John David’s death certificate from the library in Jackson, MS. I’m not sure if he ever lived with Mary Jane & their 2 kids, or if they were married. She and her 2 kids only lived with her parents on all census records. My great grandma, Della Mae, said that she was Choctaw.

The bio reads ... “John Grubbs was the son of Thomas H Grubbs and Galissiah Cooper Grubbs.”

Don't know if this is right track or not, but found mary J Grubbs, Widow, living with her father Benjamin Grubbs. It would not be unusual for him to call his DIL , daughter. With her children John and Deller (Della?) Grubbs. Benjamin Grubbs had a son John named John b 1840 and a son named David. No indication of being Choctaw, that I could find.

Thank you for finding that for me. I know that Benjamin is her biological father, but I didn’t know that she was a widow, or if she was actually married to her children’s father. I also know that Benjamin was not Choctaw, so that would be coming from the mystery ( John Grubbs) that was Mary Jane’s husband. Their sons death certificate states that Mary Jane’s maiden name was Grubbs, and the father’s name was John Grubbs. So, I’m guessing that a Grubbs married a Grubbs.

It might be that her maiden name wasn’t known by the informant and so the married name was listed on the death certificate.

Also, when searching for information on Grubbs, search for variations, such as Grubs.

I found Mary Jane Grubbs on the 1850 census as an infant with her parents in Simpson, MS. (Benjamin Grubbs is listed as her father)

I’m going to focus my search back to her husband, John Grubbs, and try to find out about him.
