Lewis Tappan Barney is a Notable Civil War officer. We need help adding to his service. What rank can we use? He was the youngest man brevetted Brigadier General and a Major General in the war. Which regiment can we use in his civil war sticker? The 106th New York? We need help building up his bio and profile of this brave soldier. Was he buried in California? The obit says New York.

Thank you

* In 1862, after the American Civil War raged for a year, Barney joined the 7th New York Militia Regiment (Company F) as a Private for 90-day service [3]
* In October he joined the 68th New York Infantry Regiment (Company G). 68th  was part of the Army of the Potomac's XI Corps
* A month later Barney, who was listed in some rosters as ''John Barney'', was commissioned a 1st Lieutenant.[2][4]
* February 1864 Barney was promoted to Captain and assigned to the staff of General Rufus Saxton. He functioned as an Assistant-Adjutant General to the forces stationed in South Carolina.
* During summer he was offered the colonelcy of the 106th New York Infantry Regiment, but he declined. Instead he tried to raise the 180th New York Infantry.  February 1865 the 180th regiment was disorganized and the  men  transferred to the 179th New York
* On March 13, 1865, (aged 20) he was brevetted both Brigadier and Major General of the U.S. Volunteers

* After the war Barney settled in California and married his wife, Mary S. Fowler, in 1875. He died in Inglewood on December 19, 1904; and is buried on Rosedale Cemetery, Los Angeles (now Angelus-Rosedale Cemetery).

Thank you Pat

Enlisted in 1862 just have to narrow it with further research

I have him in 106th but he was also in other regiments and not sure if 106th needs to be changed he didn’t accept the commission for 106th (an honor he declined)

"California, Los Angeles, Angelus-Rosedale Cemetery/Crematory Records, 1884-2002", database, FamilySearch(https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:8BT8-FDZM : 5 September 2020), Lewis T Barney, 1904.

Some places have him married to Mary Fowler, but I couldn’t locate a record. Might be conflated with another Lewis.
Interment in Vault Rosedale. So maybe wasn’t buried in New York
