Find A Grave seems to be in error; however he is well mentioned in 106th Co. H and being KIA at Cold Harbor. The obits have much about his brave actions

Per obit he was buried by the Confederates in the place he died after he was in their field hospital and expired the next day

I see it says on find a grave “Burial record for this person states it is a 1 year old child”?

Thank you Marion

Why is there a red flag on my response ?

Who flagged that?

I found at least 3 other Charles Townsend’s died 1864

A private, a corporal and a lt.
Excellent Marion. This Charles most likely doesn’t have a gravestone.

Not sure who flagged response lol
It looks like it says Lt. then in next column Col. in the record.  It is believed he was Charles H. Townsend from Orange Co., NY who was born Charles Henry to Harriet (Townsend) Henry and Peter Seton Henry.  His step-father was Isaiah Townsend.  We are working on this attribution.  There is a marker in the Friends Cemetery in Orange Co. which is a bit odd in itself.
I should add that there is a second Charles Townsend bc 1837 who it could also be.  The step-son of Isaiah Townsend had step-uncles who were two generals and one colonel in the Civil War, so the rapid rise in rank would seem to pertain to him however he was not born until 1841 [see 1850 census].  Trying to resolve the conflicting info.

Hi Liane,

Thank you for your response to this g2g question. This is very helpful and informative! Any collaboration in his genealogy and Wikitree sources and connections is appreciated. He is a bit of a mystery for the reasons stated. A true hero of the 106th NYV and it’s history of service during the U.S. Civil Warlaugh
