Are there any descendants of Cecil-3, William "Ist Baron of Burghley" Cecil, who can tell me which of his descendants first immigrated to the American colonies?

Update:  After posting this question, I discovered (well, nobody's perfect!) I had a book in my possession that has addressed this question in some detail, though apparently not found a definitive answer.  David C. Cissell wrote "The Pedigree of William Cecil, Lord Burghley" in 2020.  It includes several chapters of interest.  I am going to write the author and ask for permission to post some quotes (somewhere on WikiTree).  If anyone cares about this question, send me a PM and I'll update you.

William Cecil 2nd Earl of Salisbury is an ancestor.  Here is a bit of info.  politicwrom.com/oxford-shakespear/the-cover-up-who-did-it/the -cecils-and-history/

Amazon has a book called 300 years of Cecils in America starting at 1665.  I know that William Amhurst Vanderbilt Cecil who is a descendant of William 1st Baron of Burghley, through his grandparents.  He was born in Ashvill, N.C.  in 1928, This can all be found in Wikipedia.

Thank you.  I actually downloaded that book (by Alta Cecil Koch, and including information from Walter V. Ball) some time ago and had not thought to check it.  I believe the progenitor of that line is currently represented on WikiTree by Cecil-1429, who is not shown to descend from the Burghley line.  You are helping me to narrow things down, though!

Sorry, I missed part of what you said the first time.  William Amhurst Vanderbilt Cecil was the son of immigrant John Francis Amhurst Cecil who was born in England in 1890.  Thanks for that too.  I imagine there is someone earlier than that.

Toni, you could be right, odd as that seems to me.  I haven't found any information to contradict William Amhurst Vanderbilt Cecil as the first Burghley descendant to settle in America.  I guess those early Cecils were happy in England, and although some invested in colonial ventures, did not themselves want to experience the primitive colonial life.
